ADDAC803 - Quadraphonic Spatializer
ADDAC's quadraphonic output module.
Using the VBAP (Vector-Base Amplitude Panning) principle, it allows positioning a mono signal over a quadraphonic speaker array for sound spatialization. The VBAP algorithm can be controlled by Cartesian or Polar methods.
The sound path is fully analog, featuring 4 high-quality VCAs.
Featuring both 1/4" and 3.5mm jacks for adapter-free connections.
Four 16-bit CV outputs mirror the signal sent to the VCAs' control. When connected to 4 external VCAs, these can be used for polar mixing of 4 different sound sources.
The 2 Filter CV outputs react according to the distance from the center point. The + output increases as the sound gets further away from the center of the room, allowing synchronization with a low-pass filter on the input sound so that as it moves away from the center, the high frequencies get attenuated, further increasing the spatialization experience. Another good practice would be to sync a reverb dry/wet signal as well so that the sound gets more diffused as it moves away from the center into the horizon.
Both the filter and the reverb should be plugged between the sound source and the ADDAC803, in order for the incoming sound to be processed before being routed to the 4 outputs.
The X and Y CV outputs mirror the Cartesian sound position between 0 and +5V.
