ADDAC126 Rotary Exciter — CV-Controlled Magnetic String Exciter for the ADDAC120 Four Strings Series
The ADDAC126 is a rather unusual way of making strings vibrate. Instead of physically plucking or striking them, it uses a brushless motor spinning four magnets with opposing polarities. The rotating magnetic field excites the strings when its frequency aligns with their tuning or harmonics.
The motor can reach 7,000 RPM, and its speed is controlled by a dedicated knob or CV input. Sweeping the speed changes which strings and harmonics respond, allowing you to explore different resonances without directly touching the strings. Quite a fascinating meeting of mechanical engineering and sound synthesis, and a very different way of setting a string in motion!
Features:
- Electromagnetic string exciter for the ADDAC120 Four Strings Series
- Brushless motor operating at up to 7,000 RPM
- Four rotating magnets with opposing polarities
- Excites strings through a rotating magnetic field
- Motor speed controlled via knob and CV input
- Nonlinear motor speed response
- Resonance determined by string tuning and motor speed
About the ADDAC 120-Series
The 120-Series brings real vibrating strings into Eurorack, crossing the worlds of modular synthesis and electro-acoustic instruments. Its four strings form a customizable instrument somewhere between a lap steel guitar, a zither and an automated string machine. The headstock and bridge form the foundation, while additional modules capture the sound, mechanically pluck or mute the strings, excite them magnetically, add frets or even turn the strings into a physical audio resonator. Combined with Eurorack sequencing, CV and effects, you can build anything from a manually played instrument to a fully automated string setup.
