Soma - Utilities for Pulsar (Screw)
- Order number: 230399
Soma Utilities are add-on modules in an desktop enclosure. They extend the functionality of the Soma Pulsar-23 drum computer, but are also compatible with any other CV-enabled device.
This is the Screw version. Utilities modules can be divided into two categories. On the one hand there are passive elements like switches, resistors and capacitors, on the other hand there are different kinds of amps and waveshapers on board, linear or non-linear and controlled or uncontrolled respectively.
The passive elements extend the switching or control capabilities of Pulsar, while linear amplifiers provide connectivity to devices operating at lower voltages than Pulsar (10V).
Thus, for example, step sequencers with an output voltage of 5V or tape decks with 1V can be connected to the Pulsar inputs. The non-linear and controlled amps and waveshapers control the signal level, but at the same time change its spectrum, distort its shape and add harmonics. The amp circuits refer to well-sounding early developments of the transistor era. This version of Utilities features normal screws for connecting alligator clips.
Features:
- Expansion modules for the Soma Pulsar-23 drum machine.
- Compatible with any other CV-capable device
- Consists of passive elements like switches, resistors and capacitors resp. amps and waveshapers (linear/non-linear or controlled/uncontrolled)

Soma is Vlad Kreimer's "romantic engineering" endeavour into musical instrument design. While the Lyra-8 organismic synthesizer and the Ether wide-band receiver have already gained a bunch of adherents, the Pulsar-23 has created an unprecedented expectation.
