Rodec - MX-Modular (Hybrid Performance)
MX-Modular (Hybrid Performance) — Rodec's Vision for a Next-Generation Modular Studio and Performance Console with 500-Series Support.
Rodec returns to the mixer scene with something quite special. After a long silence and now under the new leadership of Tom De Ridder, they've finally arrived with a new type of mixer. The MX-Modular series takes everything they learned about analog mixing throughout their decades long history and reimagines it through a modularIZED lens.
The Hybrid Performance edition of this mixer arrives fully loaded. You get four mono channels equipped with Rodec's M501 mic pre/eq modules, two stereo channels featuring their new 100-series modules (phono preamp, line preamp, EQs, and dynamic filters), plus two empty slots for your own additions. It is a console that understands you might need phono inputs for turntables one night and line inputs for synths the next.
Their new M-501 preamp modules feature dual discrete 6-pin socketed opamps paired with Lundahl input and output transformers. These work together to deliver rich harmonic depth and clarity, with up to 70dB of gain that handles everything from delicate ribbon mics to hot line sources. The output attenuation knob lets you push the opamps and transformers for more color without overdriving the next stage. The EQ section draws from Rodec's 1986 MX-18 heritage, now refined with ±15dB boost/cut and an all-new parametric mid band with switchable Q for either surgical precision or wide musical sweeps.
The 100-series format deserves a special mention — by subdividing standard 500-series slots into smaller horizontal spaces, Rodec has created room for a new ecosystem of compact modules. Think of them as physical plugins — EQs, filters, and preamps that stack horizontally. These small-format modules let you build a custom audio chain without the bulk of traditional rack gear.
An 18-channel USB interface handles the hybrid aspect, with AKM ADCs and ESS DACs ensuring pristine conversion. Each channel can switch between analog and USB inputs, making multitrack recording and stem summing equally simple. There's also a digital module in the master section with a built-in effects processor that provides quality reverb and delay algorithms, and at the bottom of you'll find the classic Rodec crossfader.
This mixer console is true to the word modular in every aspect and manages to do so with little compromise. Even more so, this is the “Mixer as a Instrument” console so many people have been craving for. Track a band through its warm preamps. Sum your DAW stems through the analog bus. Perform a live set with turntables and drum machines. The programmable mute groups and scene recall is also a terrific addition for more complex mixing scenarios.
This mixer is vast and can adapt to your own specific use-case, to get a better idea of what each and every module does in detail we urge you to take a deep dive into the documentaion for it over at Rodec. This is equipment built by people who understand that the lines between studio and stage have blurred — welcome back Rodec :)
