Neumann MT 48 U — Neumann's First Interface, and One Worthy of Their Name
The MT 48 U is Neumann's first audio interface, developed in collaboration with Swiss converter specialists Merging Technologies. With AD/DA conversion offering a dynamic range of 136dB — far higher resolution than your typical desktop interfaces — the MT 48 should capture the full potential of Neumann microphones without any constraints. Two mic/line preamps provide up to 78dB of gain, enough for any ribbon or dynamic mic, alongside two line/instrument inputs, four monitor outputs, and a pair of headphone outputs with powerful amplifiers.
What makes this interface different is its touchscreen workflow. All settings — mixer levels, pan, EQ, dynamics — are accessible directly on the unit without needing software. The onboard DSP provides fully parametric EQ, compression, and reverb per channel, usable for monitoring, printing effects while recording, or both simultaneously via its Dual Output Technology (wet and dry signals recorded on separate channels). Four independent monitor mixes can be configured and controlled on the fly. Connectivity extends to USB-C, ADAT, S/PDIF, AES67, and MIDI. The Monitor Mission mode transforms it into a comprehensive monitor controller, supporting stereo through to immersive formats with trim, delay, and room EQ capabilities. All in all, a beautiful and solid centerpiece for studios built around the Neumann ecosystem!
