Michigan Synth Works - SY-1 MIDI
- Order number: 230011
Michigan Synth Works SY-1 MIDI Configuration is a replica of the sought-after Pearl SY-1 drum machine, which has become an iconic device with its flexible, accessible and expressive sound generation.
The SY-1 drum machine appeared in 1979 and consisted of two identical channels, each with two oscillators per voice, and five different modes (plus noise channel), providing extensive sound processing options with the characteristic electro zaps and FM sounds in addition to "normal" sounds. Besides the single oscillator mode (A) and the noise mode (F), the combination modes (B-E) are especially interesting and let the SY-1 reach top form together with the LFOs and the sweep functionality.
Michigan Synth Works has reproduced the internal and external details of the original and carefully selected the components to match the sonic character of the original version, and the case, board, and I/O boards are even interchangeable with those of the original.
Features:
- Replica of the Pearl Syncussion SY-1
- Two-voice drum synthesizer
- Five different sound generation modes plus noise
- Each voice with controls for Tune, Decay, Sweep Amount, Sweep Speed, Sweep Up/Off/Down, LFO Amount, LFO Shape (triangle or square), Sample/Hold
- Can be controlled via drum trigger/V-trig
- Inputs: Trig 1+2, MIDI In, Mute, Tune 1,2 CV In
- Outputs: 1+2
This is the MIDI equipped configuration of the SY-1: This configuration corresponds to the "expanded i/o" configuration, but the MOD input is replaced by MIDI. MIDI responds to velocity to control level and pitch for each channel.
MIDI functions:
- 16 Tigger levels controlled by MIDI Velocity (Plugging a jack into the trigger input will override the MIDI generated trigger)
- 4 Octave pitch: pitch CV functions as an offset to the Pitch slider – it is always a relative pitch, not absolute pitch. (Plugging a jack into the Tune input will override the MIDI generated Pitch)
- MIDI Pitchbend
- Modwheel to Filter frequency: 4V (50%) possible modulation range to filter frequency as an offset to the filter frequency slider. Extends the range of the filter up or down beyond the range of the slider alone
- MIDI Learn: Press the sense potentiometer twice quickly (trigger LED flashes) – next received note sets the MIDI channel
