Jomox - ALPHA BASE Mk II

The ALPHA BASE Mk II is the latest version of Jomox’s well-regarded and versatile, hybrid analog-digital drum machine.

The updated ALPHA BASE, introduces several improvements, offering an even more refined and powerful drum synthesis experience. One very welcome upgrade is the graphic OLED display for clear visual feedback and RGB LEDs in the sequencer for better control. New buttons like Last Step, Roll/Flam, and Store Kit/Patt have been added to improve workflow. The analog engine has been enhanced, now featuring analog panning circuitry for the hybrid sample channels and increased control over noise volume.

While the ALPHA BASE Mk II retains similarities to earlier Jomox machines like the XBASE 09, 999, and 888, it incorporates 20 years of drum machine design and development, making it the most advanced and flexible option in the Jomox lineup ever.

The ALPHA BASE Mk II offers a powerful array of instruments, combining analog and digital technologies for a flexible, hybrid sound design experience.

At its core is the famous Jomox Kick Drum, a true analog design that delivers deep, punchy bass drum sounds. Complementing the kick is the MBrane, a versatile analog voice capable of producing snare, tom, and other percussion sounds with a wide frequency range, ideal for creating everything from sharp snares to resonant, low-end tones.

For high-frequency elements, the ALPHA BASE Mk II includes Cl HiHat, Op HiHat, Clap, Rim Shot, Crash, and Ride instruments enhanced with analog filtering and noise mixing. These instruments allow for precise sound shaping and manipulation, providing classic drum machine sounds with added flexibility.

Additionally, the machine features X Sample 1 & 2, two sample-based instruments with external sampling inputs, enabling users to import and manipulate their own sounds. Finally, the FM Synth offers four operators and up to six voices, capable of producing a wide variety of percussive and tonal sounds, adding depth and variety to the overall sound palette.

With its combination of analog sound, digital sampling, and real-time performance controls, the ALPHA BASE Mk II is a versatile tool for creating a broad range of electronic music.
