Haken Audio Slim Continuum s46L6x
p>The Continuum Fingerboard is a MIDI performance controller with a unique, three-dimensional playing concept. Thanks to internal, polyphonic (modular) sound generation, the instrument can be used not only to control external hardware and software, but also as a stand-alone synthesizer. The sounds of the DSP system are highly atmospheric. The multi-test playing field allows extremely expressive performances. In detail, movements on X, Y and Z axes are evaluated. - From up to 16 fingers! The X-axis is used to transmit pitch data. A vibrato can be generated by slight lateral movements of fingers. Violent wiping gestures over a large area of the playing surface lead to flowing, extremely finely resolved glissandi. Additional control data can be generated with the Y-axis. - Quasi one modulation wheel per finger. The Z-axis is to be understood as touch dynamics and polyphonic aftertouch.
Separately available expanders allow users to add more voices and CV paths to the already generous number of voices.
The half size version of the Continuum Fingerboard offered here offers a playing surface of almost four octaves. Three-dimensional, polyphonic playing surface with a luxurious feel.
X-axis - For determining the pitch.
Y-axis - Freely editable, sends any MIDI-CC message.
Z-axis - Freely editable, sends any MIDI CC message.
Up to 16 "keystrokes", each with X-, Y- and Z-axis, are evaluated simultaneously.
Almost four octaves of playing surface with conventional scaling. (4610 Cent) High-resolution pitch scaling allows infinitely variable, polyphonic glissandi and extremely sensitive interval tuning. (resolution higher than 0.1 cent)
High-performance MIDI signal flow guarantees ultra-fast response.
Intelligent scale quantization.
In addition to presets, you can also use self-made scales. Scalable pitch processing makes the use of non-linear pitch mapping possible.
Mono mode allows the use of multiple fingers to retrigger sounds or create portamento effects.
Editable pitch bend area.
Configurable split and layer modes.
Internal DSP sound generation with up to 32x polyphony.
EaganMatrix modular synthesizer, specially designed to match the capabilities of the Continuum Fingerboard.
Various types of sound generation can be used, for example subtractive and additive synthesis, FM or physical modeling.
About 350 presets included.
Dedicated communication algorithms for the DSP hardware from Symbolic Sound Corporation. (Kyma) The configuration can be done via the device interface, an editor software (Windows / OSX) or the MIDI input.
Analogue stereo audio output with 24 bit DA-converters Digital audio output according to AES3 standard (24 bit, sample rates selectable 48 kHz or 96 kHz.
Alternatively synchronisation to digital audio input).
Digital audio input according to AES3 standard (24 bit, sample rate selectable between 32 and 192 kHz.)
MIDI DIN input and output Two pedal connections with dynamic sustain and sostenuto functionality.
Continuum Voltage Converter (CVC): Adds a total of 16 CV and Gate connectors to the fingerboard (Sold separately.)
All Slim models include the Eagan Matrix DSP Expander, allowing full 24-voice polyphony.
Munich-born Lippold Haken started working on the Continuum Fingerboard in the early 1980s as he obtained his Ph.D. in Electric Engineering at University of Illinois. A decade later he teamed up with Edmund Eagan to develop built-in sounds that are specifically designed for the Continuum’s three-dimensional playing surface.
