The Fred's Lab Manatee is a 4-part synthesizer module with up to 16 voices, and different synthesis algorithms.
Manatee is designed to offer flexible sound design options, all in a small yet comfortable to work with housing. The core of the Manatee is its spectral synthesis engine, which combines elements of additive and wavetable synthesis. This approach provides a detailed level of control over sound shaping, starting from the tonal level.
In addition to the spectral engine, the Manatee includes Virtual Analog, Waveform, and 2-Operator FM synthesis algorithms. These can be used independently or to complement the spectral oscillator.
Each voice consists of 2 oscillators, an advanced noise and ring modulator, a multimode resonant filter (with 12 and 24 dB/Oct options and an extra RC section), a saturator, 2 meta-envelopes, 1 custom LFO, and a modulation matrix. The modulation sources can be routed to various parameters, and intensity can be controlled via MIDI CC, aftertouch, or other expressions.
Each of the 4 parts is equipped with a spectral maker, 2 custom LFOs, a stereo delay, and 2 adjustable stereo EQs. The module also features a master reverb with several models, including hall, plate, and room reverbs, designed to provide additional flexibility in mixing.
The Manatee is a versatile tool for those who want precise control over sound shaping and modulation in both experimental and more traditional contexts. It supports full MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression), allowing for enhanced expression in performance.
