Elta Music - Selector 8

The Elta Music Selector 8 is a passive 8-to-1 audio selector switch bundled with a collection of contact microphones, a pocket FM radio and the QVJ electronic pendant. Designed as a companion for the Solar 42 and Solar 50 ambient drone machines, it connects to their sensitive preamp input and lets you flip between sound sources with a rotary switch — no replugging required. Eight inputs (each with both 3.5mm and 6.3mm jacks), one output. Simple as that.

Beyond the actual switch box itself, it's really a microphone kit in disguise. Three types are included: a clip-on for instruments and flat surfaces, a suction cup pickup for acoustic guitars and similar, and one housed in an aluminium canister with a magnet — stick it to a fridge, a washing machine, a metal table, whatever resonates. The last one is sealed for use in water, although the can is not waterproof, so Elta recommends opening it afterwards and drying the inside. The pocket AM/FM radio comes with a Y-cable so you can route it both to the selector and to the Solar's external audio input simultaneously — handy for feeding the envelope follower. And then there's the QVJ, Elta's 8-bit electronic pendant that doubles as a tiny microphone and glitch-style audio visualiser. Plug it into one of the selector's inputs and you've got ambient room sound or electromagnetic interference on tap.

The switch also works in reverse — one input, eight outputs — so it can serve as a simple passive signal router for synths, drum machines, or whatever else you want to send to multiple destinations. This is a nice foraging kit for those who like to seek for sounds in unexpected places.
