Nobody saw this coming — ASM, the people behind the super popular Hydrasynth, put that engine into a wind instrument. The Diosynth is a dual-part wind synthesizer with real moving keys, breath and bite control, and the full Hydrasynth synthesis architecture running underneath. Each part gets two WaveScan oscillators and a dedicated multi-sample oscillator, so you can layer synthesis with acoustic instrument samples, blend them, or split them across the key range. The sample library alone is worth a look: 128 instrument sets recorded with rare and expensive source instruments — piccolo to contrabass flute, soprano sax to Eb tubax, ethno flutes and whistles, brass with mute variations, strings and accordions.
The keywork on the Diosynth uses actual moving keys — not flat sensors or buttons — with fingering modes for sax, flute, trumpet, and recorder. If you're already a seasoned sax player, you should be up and running in a jiffy! An XY joystick sits under the right thumb for pitch bend and modulation, two pressure pads and three assignable buttons let you step through patches mid-performance, and a gyroscope tracks the instrument's orientation as a mod source — raise it to open a filter, tilt for vibrato, whatever you route it to. All 384 factory patches are overwritable, with space for 768 total.
Runs on USB power or batteries, connects to your DAW over a single USB-C cable for audio and MIDI, and has Bluetooth audio in for streaming backing tracks to your headphones during practice. It ships in a hardshell case with a stand.
Wind synths have been around for a while — ASM might just have raised the bar for what one should be, considerably.
