Winterbloom Castor & Pollux II is the extended redesign of the Juno 106-inspired dual oscillator.
The familiar design of the analog synth, which has been extremely popular since the 80s, has already been reinterpreted by Winterbloom in the Castor & Pollux I in a more contemporary way. Times 2 so to say! Same as its MK I predecessor, the module offers two digitally controlled analog oscillators plus chorus, for powerful hovering Juno sounds.
Just like with the Juno 106, each of the DCOs provides the waveforms Ramp (inverted sawtooth), Pulse with PWM and Pulse suboscillator. Both oscillators can be mixed and tapped individually. Crossfading lets you create combined waveforms with harmonic fullness, and hard sync increases the 80ies factor even more. The internal LFO can be used to modulate either the chorus effect by affecting the pitch of the second DCO or the pulse width of one or both oscillators.
Compared to its predecessor, the design has been optimized. The controls for pitch, pulse width, LFO and crossfade have been significantly enlarged, and inputs and outputs have been moved from the sides to the lower half of the module. The individual waveform outputs were placed in an included 2HP-expander. The two boards have been merged into one and there is an ESD protection on all inputs and an additional LED added. However, both versions use the same firmware and behave the same when driving.
Features:
- Roland Juno 106-inspired digitally controlled dual (!) analog oscillator (DCO).
- Individual outs for the DCO waveforms (ramp, pulse, pulse sub)
- Mixer/crossfade option for harmonically complex waveforms
Chorus effect - LFO can modulate pitch of second DCO (=Chorus) or pulse width of one or both DCOs
- Hard Sync option
- Larger knobs = better control
- Separate expander for individual waveform outputs, included, 2HP
