Syntonie Ondes — Dual Video-Rate Oscillator for Gradients, Bars, and 2D Shapes. A Solid Pattern Source
Syntonie’s Ondes is a dual video-rate oscillator for analogue video synthesis. It has two independent oscillators with square and linear outputs, sync options, frequency modulation, amplitude modulation and a mixed output. Instead of making sound, it makes patterns: vertical bars, horizontal bars, scrolling lines, gradients and simple geometric shapes.
Each oscillator can lock to horizontal sync for vertical bars, vertical sync for horizontal bars, or run freely for moving lines. The linear output can behave like a triangle wave for smooth gradients, or like a sawtooth for sharper ramps. The square output gives hard black-and-white transitions, while the AM input lets you control the brightness and inversion of the linear wave with another video signal.
The MIX output is of course where the two sides meet. If you set one oscillator to horizontal and the other to vertical, Ondes starts drawing 2D forms — diamonds, triangles or diagonal gradients depending on the waveform settings. It's a very useful pattern source for video patches that need structure, movement and clean basic shapes without being very complicated to use.
