Neuzeit Instruments Warp takes the best aspects of Wavetable and Additive Synthesis and combines these into a stellar, polyphonic Eurorack-Voice-Module.
The module's simple interface helps to playfully create highly complex sounds and place them on the colorful glowing surface like on a canvas. The individual voices can be navigated via an XY matrix full of overtone spectra, whereby each spectrum is subsequently interpreted as 128 sine oscillators and converted into a wavetable. Even before this calculation, however, you can still apply a modulatable complex spectral filter, which in sum is the additive synthesis part of the module. The sounds can range from glassy and digital to creaky, big and wide - but most importantly, everything always remains dynamic as you navigate through the overtone spectra.
PWM Bend, Redux, Fold and Drive effects can then be applied to the real-time generated wavetables. The newly deformed wavetable then serves as the basis for two oscillators per voice, which in turn can interact with each other via AM, FM, Phase Modulation, Linear Detune or Sync.
Oh yes, classic high and low pass filters, two ADSRs, two LFOs, including modulation matrix are also there, of course - per voice (so the whole 4x!). Because in Warp there is nothing that doesn't exist. Wow! Without the optional expander we are monophonic multi-timbral, but still all four voices are multi-timbral usable at the same time. With the expander, it then becomes 4-way polyphonic, via CV/Gate or MIDI, and even MIDI MPE is supported.
The module has a clear layout because of the good display and despite the depth of the possible settings. Add to that the knobs on the right and left of the module, which work as macro controls and - once set - can control several parameters at once. This makes this complex module very playable and full of sweet spots.
Warp is also extremely capable of juggling wavtables, both importing and exporting them. The module is a versatile tool for processing wavetables and creating new ones from additive synthesis. It also makes a great wavetable factory, producing new fodder for all your other wavetable synthesizers. Because Warp can output pretty much any format - sample length, bit depth, etc. are flexibly adjustable for exporting the wavetables to SD card. With firmware 2.0 Neuzeit introduces a KI-supported Editor. That is a first in Euro-World and something that pushes the sound engine to strange new worlds!
Features:
- Complete synthesizer with 2 oscillators in all 4 voices
- KI-supported Wavetable-Editor
- Innovative hybrid of additive and wavetable synthesis
- Four-voice polyphonic with WarpEx expander, monophonic as standalone unit
- Supplied with numerous factory- and artist-created presets
- Large pots act as performance-oriented macro controls for several internal parameters
- Internal modulation: 2x ADSR, Note-Key and 2x LFO with a variety of waveforms
- External modulation: OMNI CV input 24-bit, MIDI velocity, MIDI aftertouch, MIDI CC
- Powerful and clearly animated modulation matrix with 8 x 19 = 152 internal modulation values per voice
- Many modulation destinations can be modulated at up to 24kHz, a unique feature in digital synthesizers
- Complex and dynamic spectral filter
- Wavetable FX: PWM Bend, Fold, Drive Redux
- Oscillator FX: Lin Detune, Sync, AM, FM, PM, noise generator with filter
- Several intuitive editors on board to draw your own overtone spectra or derive them from audio files
- Wavetable export function to create wavetable files in the appropriate target format for other synthesizers
- Tuning with gridded encoder in octaves, semitones or fine tuning. So an octave switch is already on board
