Connect your Eurorack-system to the digital domain with Boredbrain's Optx V2 ADAT Optical Converter.
The Optx V2 has been in development for the last two years. Just like it’s the module that came before, this is an ADAT converter designed to expand your modular setup by integrating it with your DAW or other ADAT-equipped devices. Supposedly this time around the guts of this module features better components that should ensure a much better signal to noise ratio, and therefor also the integrity of the signals that run through it.
Featuring eight channels of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion, the Optx V2 allows you to send and receive both audio and CV signals between your Eurorack and digital systems. The opamps have received an upgrade and it now features high-grade Cirrus Logic converters that should provide a low noise floor and “pristine sound” according to Boredbrain. That in turn should then also translate to a more accurate transmission of your sounds and modulations.
Four front-panel switches enable you to select between audio and CV input modes for the inputs (pairs of two). In audio mode, inputs are AC coupled with high-pass filters to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio. In CV mode, they are DC coupled with a self-calibration feature that minimizes DC offset.
Built-in LED indicators for each output display signal strength and polarity, assisting with real-time monitoring of your patch. The module includes a built-in sample clock, allowing you to sync the Optx V2 directly with other devices without a computer. Rear dip switches let you select internal or external sync and choose between 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rates, offering some nice flexibility in different setups.
Power options are adaptable; you can power the module's 5V circuit from your case's power supply or let the Optx V2 generate its own 5V, conserving resources in your system. All of this is housed in a compact 10HP module, making the Optx V2 a valuable link between your modular and digital environments.
So who is this for? Pretty much anyone who’s on the lookout for a reliable way to connect their Eurorack to their DAW or other digital devices that talk over ADAT. In those instances, you can’t really go wrong with this one!
