WMD Channel Surfer — Compact Channel Strip with Parametric EQ, DJ Filters, FX and Sidechain Ducking
Channel Surfer is a small channel strip from WMD for shaping a voice, a submix or even a full stereo mix inside Eurorack. It brings together the kind of tools you might reach for on a DJ mixer or compact outboard processor: EQ, filter sweeps, a handful of performance effects and sidechain ducking. It is designed to connect directly to WMD’s Performance Mixer MkII via the insert header on the back, but the front-panel jacks also let it work as a standalone processor in any system, in mono or stereo.
The panel is layered, but the structure is quite clear. A three-way switch chooses which set of parameters the knobs are controlling: EQ, filters, or effects and ducking. The shift button gives access to secondary functions, mostly for settings you adjust once and then leave alone. Under the hood, all sections remain active at the same time in a fixed order: EQ first, then filters, then effects, then the ducker. Moving the switch only changes what you are currently editing, so you can set up a bit of EQ, leave it in place, then use the filters or effects for more hands-on movement.
The EQ section gives you three parametric bands with boost/cut and sweepable frequency per band. The filter section provides DJ-style high-pass and low-pass filters with resonance, plus drive for pushing the signal harder. The effects section includes dub delay, chorus, flanger, reverb and more, while the ducker uses a dedicated sidechain input to pull the signal down from an external trigger, typically a kick. There is also an assignable CV input, nine preset slots, CV preset morphing and a LED bar that works both as a VU meter and as parameter feedback while editing. A practical space-saving processor for giving individual channels or a full mix a bit more shape, movement and control.
