WMD - Geiger Counter stompbox
- Order number: 121099
The WMD Geiger Counter is a digital effect stompbox that bases on bit crushing, sample rate reduction and radical bending of audio signals and thus creates hundreds of amazing sounds.
A high gain modern preamp drives an 8 bit computer, creating sounds which range from nice (tubey overdrive, lofi aliasing, hot gated leads) to total madness (impossible amounts of gain, multiple octave foldover, harsh digital data errors, and piercing sculpted noise).
The Gain parameter ranges from very clean sound in fully counterclockwise setting to brutal distortion in fully clockwise which will produce also long susains when used with guitars.
The shiftable tone parameter dampens the low mids in minimum position and creates a dull sound. The middle setting allows for a rich, mid sound and in maximum position we will get cristal clear highs.
The sample rate ranges from 260Hz-58kHz. High settings make clear sounds with a better resolution than any CD. Low settings dampen the sound and make it lo-fi buton the other hand digital overtones, difference frequencies and ringing aliasing will be added.
The bit rate, i.e. the resolution of the volume ranges from 1 to 8Bit. Low settings add quantization errors, at one bit the signal is absolutely chopped. The Bit/Mask switch determines if the "BitDepth" control sets the bit rate or the mask parameter, which can add gain and filter noise.
Afterwards the signal passes the wavetable processor that alters the signal in a mathematic manner, from gentle to very radical. There are 252 wavetables, organized in groups and standing in relation to each other.
The Geiger Counter has a pedal input for controlling either the bitrate, the sample rate or both at the same time.
Der Geiger Counter has a battery connector on the inside but the battery is meant for backup only so it is adviced to use an external power supply. A power supply is not included with the GC.
You can find the suitable power supply here.Geiger Counter stompbox @WMD
