The UDO Super 6 takes an evolutionary step forward with the integration of the SuperTouch ST49 keyboard. What was already a remarkable instrument now offers even more nuanced expression through polyphonic aftertouch - a feature previously reserved for UDO's larger siblings, the Super 8 and Super Gemini.
This 12-voice binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer maintains all the charm that made the original Super 6 special, while also adding a new way to interact with it. The SuperTouch keyboard doesn't just introduce polyphonic aftertouch (where each key can transmit its own independent pressure data); it also brings a more substantial, weighted key action that transforms the playing experience. The responsive, 49-key Fatar keybed provides a tactile connection that better complements the instrument's nuanced sound profile.
For those unfamiliar with the Super 6 concept, it's named for its clever binaural implementation that pairs voices between the left and right channels. While technically a 12-voice instrument, the binaural mode effectively uses these as 6 stereo voice pairs, creating spatial movement and dimensionality quite different to conventional designs. The result is a uniquely immersive stereo field that breathes life into your patches.
The Super 6 ST49 still embodies the same hands-on ethos as its predecessor - no screens, no complex menu diving - just a straightforward, knob-per-function interface reminiscent of classic 80s Roland synths. Under the hood, the synthesis architecture remains impressively potent: two FPGA-based oscillators (including the Super-Wavetable core with 7 waveform variations), SSI2144 filters (the same found in Sequential's Prophet X), dual LFOs, dual envelopes, and a comprehensive modulation matrix.
