UDO Audio - Super 6 Desktop Blue SE
- Order number: 230298
The Super 6 Desktop from UDO Audio looks even better than its Keyboard counterpart. Internally it is the same synth engine with the same super Super 6 sound.
We got asked about a Desktop Version immediately after the Super 6 was announced. Technially (almost) identical, this synth also has a 12-voice polyphonic capability and the binaural mode, enhancing its stereo output for a broader, more engaging sound experience.
That is why, despite having 12 voices, it is named "Super 6" because in binaural mode its voices are paired and assigned to the left and right channels, allowing for intricate modulation effects that enrich the stereo image. However, users should be mindful of mono compatibility when designing sounds.
The design of the Super 6 avoids digital screens and complex menus, favoring a straightforward, knob-per-function interface (very!) reminiscent of 1980s Roland synthesizers.
Sound quality is a standout feature of the Super 6, which boasts two FPGA-based oscillators that minimize audio artifacts and maintain clarity even under complex modulation. Enhanced by the flexibility of FPGA and Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) technologies, the hybrid architecture ensures high processing power and low latency, crucial for precise sound shaping and synthesis. The synthesizer is equipped with two filters, two envelopes, two LFOs, an arpeggiator, and a sequencer. The filters deserve a special mention as they are based on the SSI2144 chip designed by Dave Rossum. You also find these in the Prophet X for instance. The are responsible for that “phat” profound sonic character. These features, combined with a comprehensive modulation matrix and the absence of a digital screen, underline UDO Audio's commitment to a tactile, immersive playing experience.
The Super 6 Desktop differs from its keyboard counterpart by lacking the 4 octave keyboard and its modulation control section on the left hand side and. It compensates with practical features like VESA mount compliance, optional rack ears for 7U rack space, and robust flip-up feet. Furthermore, it introduces an innovative 24-voice Super 6 polychain option, enhancing its polyphonic capabilities for complex soundscapes. These features make the Super 6 Desktop an ideal choice for those seeking a versatile, high-quality synthesizer in a compact desktop format. Additionally, there are a Chorus and a Delay-Effect. That is not much, but in this case just about right.
The Super 6 Desktop from UDO Audio is a modern reinterpretation of the classic polysynth - now also for your rack. It is designed to cater to both enthusiasts of vintage synths and contemporary artists looking for reliable, high-quality sound. This sets a high standard for future products from UDO Audio, promising both nostalgia and innovation in a compact, user-friendly format. Really, this thing delivers on the wow-factor!
