Brainstep is more than just a comprehensive eurorack sequencer, it can sequence, arpeggiate, modulate, has MIDI and can play audio samples!
Brainstep is much more than just a sequencer—it’s also live performance tool, clock distributor, and MIDI interface in one compact module.
At its core, Brainstep features four independent tracks, with up to 64 steps per pattern. Each note in the sequences can be customized with per-step modifiers such as accents, portamento, and tie, as well as adjustable gate lengths and probabilities. With up to seven different playback directions—including smart random modes—Brainstep brings endless variation to your sequences, ensuring your performances remain dynamic and evolving.
Brainstep allows you to swiftly create and modify patterns, switch between the arpeggiator and sequencer modes, and even record and overdub keyboard presses or arpeggios directly into your patterns. Its feature-rich arpeggiator includes multiple octaves, several direction modes, and the ability to inherit the “chemistry” of existing sequences, creating fluid, evolving melodies on the fly. With the Euclidean arpeggiator mode, you can generate complex rhythmic patterns effortlessly.
In addition to all the great sequencing features, it also functions as a modulation generator, offering ADSR envelopes and LFOs across its four tracks. The envelopes can loop, sync to the clock, or be triggered per step, while the LFOs provide a wide range of waveforms, including random and S/H modes. This allows for deep, evolving modulation control over your entire system.
As if this wasn’t already a lot Brainstep can output drum samples with per-step modifiers such as accent, speed control, reverse, and gate length adjustments. Choose from preloaded sample packs or load your own via the included SD card!
Because of its great connectivity, Brainstep can function as the main synchronization tool in your studio. Its clocking options feature an internal clock generator as well as MIDI and analog clock inputs and outputs. You can convert MIDI clock to analog, or divide clock signals per track. A built-in swing generator adds groove, nice!
MIDI support is comprehensive, with TRS-MIDI and USB-C MIDI options that support monophonic, polyphonic, and MPE configurations. You can also load microtonal scales and tunings from the SD card.

MANUAL
Berlin-based Tobias Münzer is the mastermind behind Tubbutec, who not only provides retro-fits for vintage synths (Roland Juno-6, SH-101, etc.), but impressed with his microtonal modular multitool µTune, which among other gazillion functions is capable of reading and writing Scala .scl files.
