The S4 is Torso Electronics answer to all your sampling needs - now in white! A sleek device with polyphony, looping, granular synthesis and so much more
The S4 is back with a new coating! Now you can finally enjoy this beautiful machine in classic 90's Akai aesthetics, or to match your old IBM mechanical keyboard, and boy does it ever look like one magnificent piece of sampler magic. The S4 is Torso Electronics' answer to all your sampling needs! A sleek device with polyphony, looping, granular synthesis, and so much more.
This instrument has its very own take on sound processing that makes the workflow wonderfully intuitive. The 2.0 update elevated the entire experience to an even better level, making this something truly special that will only continue to improve as more updates are sure to be in the pipeline.
Torso Electronics S4 Sculpting Sampler provides a whole lot of options to give your samples a new coat of paint. The list is long and includes several so-called audio devices, which you can use as you wish on the four stereo tracks. Additionally, it is possible to bend your sounds with up to 20(!) modulation sources per track. There's a microphone, live sampling, multiple effect devices, etc. — but first things first:
The S4's audio devices include a tape player that lets you loop, detune, and chop up your samples. With this, it is also possible to do live sampling - especially interesting for the live performers among you! Furthermore, there is the self-explanatory polyphonic sample player and a morphable resonator. This is essentially a filter bank with a whopping 48 bands. With the modulation sources' help, really special soundscapes are possible here. A powerful tool for sample editing is the Granular section of S4, where you can have your samples split into tiny grains in real-time and make them sound completely new using time-warping and pitch-shifting. Lastly, there are a variety of effects, such as bit crushing, drive, and compression, as well as a reverb-delay combination with pitch shifting and shimmer.
As already mentioned, S4 lets you edit the parameters of the various devices with up to 20 modulation sources. There are always 4 available per device, which can be assigned to absolutely any parameter. The modulation sources include complex LFOs, envelopes, and generative sequencing.
In terms of connectivity, S4 has everything necessary to easily blend into any setup: MIDI in/out, analog sync in/out, USB-C, and two audio inputs and outputs. And if you need more inputs or outputs, you can connect it to you DAW, where the S4 turns into a 10 in 10 out interface! If you'd rather capture sounds from the world around you, S4 even has a built-in microphone. There's also a clean LCD display with really nicely designed visualizations, and all of this is built into a slick and solid aluminum enclosure - now available in that gorgeous white finish.
The S4 is a real workhorse when it comes to working with samples. Merely calling it a sampler doesn't do it justice.
