Soma - Pulsar-23 (Model of 2022)
- Order number: 220661
The Soma Pulsar-23 is a semi-modular drum computer containing four voices.
New with the Model of 2022:
In response to customer requests, Soma have implemented a reset option for the bass drum. For this purpose, a switch is installed inside the device, which can be used to switch between the free-running Soma design and the classic drum machine design. By having the oscillator of the bass drum reset with every trigger, you keep a constant punch. Soma have deliberately avoided this to make the sound more versatile, however, it is a useful and important feature for some genres and tastes of yours.
In detail, there are kick drum, snare, bass / percussion and hi-hat / cymbal channels. Additionally, the instrument features four envelopes, a LFO, two gates, VCAs and inverters plus a random voltage generator. Loop recorders allow you to play all drum-voices independently. Furthermore, there is a DSP effect and a distortion circuit. The Pulsar’s sound repertoire covers not only beefy analog drums, but experimental clicks, glitches and even drones as well.
The following components are planned for the Pulsar-23:
- Four drum voices: Kick, snare, bass / percussion, hi-hat / cymbal
- Four envelopes. Thanks to a sustain function, individual drum-channels can be used as noise or drone synthesizers.
- Four independent loop recorders
- Clock generator with several divider circuits
- LFO with a range of 0.1 to 5000 Hz
- Shaos – A (pseudo) random generator based on shift registers
- DSP effect with variable sample rate
- Analog distortion
- Two gates
- Two VCAs
- Two inverters
- MIDI
Lots of parameters are voltage-controllable. In total, Pulsar-23 comes equipped with more than 100 patch points, which can be wired using crocodile clips. Thanks to this concept, it is very easy to add components like potentiometers. – Are you up for some wild circuit bending experiments? Integrated format converters allow you to connect Pulsar-23 to modular setups.
Pulsar23 comes in a special HQ bag with 30 alligator clips cables and PSU

Soma is Vlad Kreimer's "romantic engineering" endeavour into musical instrument design. While the Lyra-8 organismic synthesizer and the Ether wide-band receiver have already gained a bunch of adherents, the Pulsar-23 has created an unprecedented expectation.
