This little zine picks up where the book “Synthesizer Evolution” left off and explores the history and relationship of samplers & drum machines.

Oli Freke's book “Synthesizer Evolution: From Analogue to Digital (and Back)” dealt extensively with the evolution of synthesizers in general. “Samplers & Drum Machines” continues on 52 lovely pages and deals with these rhythm machines. Samplers and drum machines are very different in their sound generation but are nevertheless very closely related and very often serve a similar purpose: rhythm! Colorful illustrations and thoughtful texts explain the journey of rhythm machines with plenty of information for synthesizer nerds new and old.
