Bonkers by Raw Analogue Sound — Dual Channel Savage Distortion Laboratory
Bonkers is a complete sound mangling laboratory that either turns pristine signals into shattered debris or adds just a hint of grit, with a huge range of destruction possibilities in between. Two drive stages per channel, a three-band EQ, and some nice routing options make Bonkers live up to its name.
Each channel starts with a VCA stage where you can tame or boost your input signal. Next - there's the dual drive sections. Drive I offers different clipping modes and a switchable gain factor (x10/x35), while Drive II adds its own flavor with two distinct modes. A high-pass filter switch offers the ability to keep the low end clean.
The three-band EQ offers two switchable frequency ranges for each band. This allows you to precisely target the frequencies you want to emphasize or cut. Combined with the drive stages, you can sculpt your distortion to taste.
Another nice touch is the feedback VCA with its own CV input. Creating controlled feedback is a rather straightforward affair — subtle resonance to screaming mayhem — it's all there. The blend control allows for mixing between dry and wet signals, preserving transients even with extreme processing.
Bonkers is amazing for drum processing. Feed a kick drum into both channels, dial in different settings, and use the crossfader to morph between them. The envelope follower and sidechain inputs make it easy to create pumping effects or duck one signal with another. Speaking of movement - Bonkers can even self-oscillate without any input, turning it into a wild sound source on its own. And yes, all of this works in stereo too.All in all, what's on offer here is a smorgasbord of distortion.
