Polyend Introduces 'Press', Their First All Analog, One-Knob-Per-Function Stereo Compressor Pedal.
Polyend, known for their inventive digital instruments like Tracker and Play, have done something unexpected - they've created an analog stereo compressor. Press brings some features more common in the software world into hardware territory, making it something else than just another compressor pedal.
Press features a dry/wet control lets you dial in parallel compression - something that's rather uncommon in hardware compressors. The side-chain section includes both high-pass and low-pass filters, allowing you to sculpt which frequencies trigger the compression. Want the kick drum to duck your bassline without affecting the high-end sparkle? Voilà, there you go :)
This box is refreshingly simple, coming from a company that usually delivers far more complex machines, Press rather follows the one-knob-per-function philosophy which is always welcome. The all-analog circuitry delivers transparent compression that can go from subtle 2:1 ratios all the way up to limiting. A single tilt EQ shapes the compressed signal's tone which is great for adding that final polish.
Built into a compact aluminum housing (even the knobs are metal), Press represents Polyend's first venture into pure analog territory. It's a thoughtful blend of classic hardware compression with some handy modern extras that people usually have come to expect from their software tools.
