TEO-5 is a synth with THAT Oberheim sound condensed into the desktop-friendly Sequential Take 5 format.
Listen up everybody, there's a new Oberheim in town! Isn't that crazy? Thomas Elroy Oberheim (TEO) the man himself is still making synths in 2024! That's almost 50 years since the debut of his first commercial synth. For those who dream of owning an Oberheim, the TEO-5 is the perfect place to start. It features the exact filter circuitry from the iconic 1974 Synthesizer Expander Module (SEM) and the beloved blue striped finish found on his later synths.
But the TEO-5 is more than just a nostalgic nod. It's designed for today, with built-in digital effects like chorus, delay, reverb and phaser. According to Tom, these are "spot-on emulations of the original Oberheim phase shifter and ring modulator".
It doesn't take a keen eye to spot the almost identical layout and form factor to the Sequential Take 5. What sets them apart is the oscillator and filter section.
This now includes a modern take on the Oscillator X-Mod (with through-zero FM, a first for Oberheim), a 64-step sequencer and a multi-mode arpeggiator. The Fatar keybed with aftertouch is a nice extra. An inspiring collection of presets lets you quickly dial up great sounds without having to dive into endless menus.
For an Oberheim, this synth is pretty darn affordable. That means it's bringing the classic Oberheim sound to a new generation of musicians. What this thing can do for its size is pretty impressive. This synth has a ton of personality and beautiful sounds to deliver! And the price... the price people!

What a comeback! The legendary synth guru took the synth world by storm when he presented the OB-X8 together with Dave Smith. It’s apparent that Tom is not done with his creative career yet.
