Sequencers usually generate definable sequences of CV and gate signals. CVs can control any parameter in the system, gate and trigger signals can start envelopes, reset LFOs or trigger any switch. The sequence of the sequences is determined by internal or external "clock", which advances the sequencer one step with each pulse (= trigger). The synchronization of rhythmic events, the matching and relationship of different tempos with each other and the playing with this new parameter in music has become a relevant factor with various products and approaches in recent years. Not only in the modular system there are products for this purpose, whose function only reveals itself in its full sense and scope when combined with other devices.
