MODOR - DR-2
- Order number: 200361
DR-2 is a very versatile six-voice digital drum synthesizer with 128 step sequencer and a very tidy user interface.
Luckily, Modor's DR-2 is not a copy of a classic, but uses modern digital synthesis to generate drum sounds. One drum model can be assigned to each of the six channels. You can also assign the same model to several or all channels. The models include: Three bass drum models, three snare models, three cymbal models, claps, two tom models and miscellanoues. The latter is divided into three sub-categories: rimshot, rattle and cowbell. Further models are being released with upcoming firmware updates, including four bassline synth models!
Each of the drum models has up to 12 synthesis parameters. This allows you to create very unusual and unique sounds based on classic drum sounds. Each channel has its own output on the back of the device: the special thing about the individual outputs is that they function as inserts. With the appropriate cables, you can therefore tap the signal from the socket, loop it through an effects unit and feed it back into the sum. Practical, just like the 6.3 mm jack clock inputs and outputs and the obligatory MIDI trio (In/Out/Thru).
The DR-2's sequencer allows you to create an alpha and beta sequence in which each synthesiser parameter of an instrument can be set differently, resulting in variations of an instrument. In addition, dynamic and rhythmic variations can be created using velocity, accent and random settings.
With the latest firmware upgrades, the DR-2 has been given some new functions. There are now ‘polyrhythmic clocks’. You can play polyrhythms in the ratio 12:16, 8:5, 7:16 or any other imaginable N:M ratio with M and N up to 16. Quintuplets, heptuplets (!?) etc...more info here.
The Modor DR-2 now features new synthesis models specifically designed for bassline creation, expanding the already versatile drum synthesis capabilities. These additions include 4 new models: SAW SYNTH and SQU SYNTH, each with a sawtooth/rectangle oscillator and resonant filter - SIN SYNTH, with 3 sine wave oscillators and a drive parameter - and FM SYNTH, with a 2-operator FM setup for classic FM basses.
In addition, these bass sounds can be refined with the DR-2's built-in distortion, tilt filter, compressor and parametric equaliser for extra punch, warmth and definition.
