Visual Cortex is the heart of many LZX video synthesis setups. The module consists of a master sync generator, video input and output stages, a mixer with color composition options and a multifunctional signal generator. In short, you have all the essential functions for video synthesis at your fingertips. With the Visual Cortex, you can generate two-dimensional animations, process external video signals, mix colors, automate transitions and much more.
Visual Cortex is composed of five functional areas:
Input Decoder: Prepares external video sources to be processed in a modular setup. The YPbPr Component input is tailored for full color video. Its Y input can be fed with NTSC or PAL signals. The results will be monochromatic.
Output Encoder: Converts all kinds of voltages, be it an audio, video or CV signal, into visual material that can be displayed on a screen. There are NTSC / PAL, S-Video and YPbPr outputs.
Sync Generator: Produces pulses for synchronizing other video modules. The circuit can lock to external sources. NTSC/480i and PAL576i timing formats are supported.
Animation & Key Generator: A multi-function low frequency voltage generator designed specifically for video transitions. A keyer is built-in. The circuit is capable of triggered, manual and automated transitions.
Colorizer & Compositor: A flexibly usable processor which can combine two sets of RGB signals into a single composite output. Blending modes include crossfading, addition, subtraction and multiplication. Color inversion, solarization and a linear three-band colorizer are available as well.
