Kilpatrick Audio K4816 Pattern Generator (Buchla Format)

The Kilpatrick K4816 is an extended Buchla 200e version of the K4815 - as known from Eurorack and is also a relative of the Carbon standalone sequencer. Instead of manipulating sequences perstep with dials, you set patterns, scales and motions on an 8*8 grid. This means you select a pattern in a 64 LED field (8*8 grid), the pitch per cell and globally the scale and the way the sequencer jumps through the pattern. It's wonderfully simple and different and leads to very musical results.

Within the Buchla cosmos of the 200e system and modules, the Kilpatrick K4816 represents a real gain.

The main operating concept consists of only three layers:

• Scales: each of the fields in the grid can be assigned a note value. There are only four scales to choose from: Major/Minor and Large/Small.

• Patterns: These determine which notes are played. They are patterns of activated fields within the grid. 32 preset patterns can be selected.

• Motions: These are the modes of movement through a pattern. If a step falls on an activated field, a note is played. There are 64 preset Motions. From "simple and straightforward" to "abstract and geometric". Motion Length determines the sequence length.

 The module can be synchronized internally, via MIDI or externally. It has extra added CV-inputs for Pattern Type, Motion Start and Motion Length, as well as MIDI in and Out. Dependencies between the three levels and the possibility of CV control provide endless possibilities to create very catchy sequences.
