The #1114 Filter/VCA Grr by Sam aka Look Mum No Computer is a very characterful filter that changes its sound immensely depending on the input signal and parameter settings.
With resonance set to the far left (CCW), this module behaves relatively normal and filters the incoming audio signal, but Grr, as the name suggests, is not a simple filter. As soon as you turn up the resonance you get great overtones, harmonics and indefinables. The interaction of the other parameters with the resonance allows to create an incredibly wide sound, because you get a clipping/waveshaping parameter, a shelf switch with which you can switch between two characteristics and even a VCA. From normal filter action to total sound distortion, everything is possible here.
Two audio inputs allow exciting mixing of signals, and the CV control inputs are wisely chosen with dual control over cutoff (one with attenuator), dual control over VCA (one with attenuator) and CV control over resonance(!).
The best thing to do is just click on the video and listen to what I'm trying to express in words here....
- Voltage control over resonance
- Attenuverter on filter frequency input
- Built in VCA on the output
- Clipping circuit that isn’t Diode Clipping
- Shelf switch offsets the waveform to make it clip asymmetrically more easily, but also makes the resonance go wild
