Filters & Resonators

Filters attenuate the harmonic spectrum of an audio signal, usually in the frequency range between 20 Hz and approx. 15 kHz, and thus change the acoustic appearance of the signal. Depending on the type of frequency suppression, a distinction is made between low-pass, band-pass, high-pass and bandpass filters. Multimode filters offer several or all of these modes. Due to their different technical construction (transistor, diode, IC), two low-pass filters, for example, may sound extremely different although they work in the same way. Many filters are able to oscillate themselves (natural resonance), i.e. they sound even without an input signal, and can therefore also be used as sine wave oscillators. Some of them are perfectly suited for FM sounds.
