Dreadbox Artemis — Ten years of experience packed into six voices of a desktop synth — This is Dreadbox's birthday present to themselves (and us!).
Dreadbox marks their first decade with a desktop polysynth that combines their analog heritage with Sinevibes' digital expertise. Like its predecessor Typhon, Artemis pairs analog circuits with digital effects, but this time brings six voices to the table.
Two VCOs per voice form the foundation, with continuous waveshaping, PWM, and FM capabilities. On top of that you get to choose between a sub-oscillator or noise source, mind you — that's an "OR" — choose one! Let's say this then forces you to commit to your sound decisions, which might not be a bad thing in these times of complete and utter option-paralysis…!
The dual filter configuration offers distinct flavors. A resonant highpass with dedicated sliders for cutoff and resonance works alongside a switchable 12/24dB lowpass filter. The latter comes with keyboard tracking and a drive circuit that adds proper heat when needed. Filter FM brings additional movement, accepting input from the noise generator, envelope, or either of the two LFOs.
For modulation, two multi-wave LFOs equipped with BPM sync and fade-in capabilities handle the heavy lifting. Cross-modulation between them opens up new choices, with routing to VCO pitch, wave, pulse-width, and filter cutoff. There are two ADSR envelopes that shape your sounds, with the filter envelope nicely doubling as an FM depth modulator.
The Sinevibes effect section proves this collaboration wasn't just a one-off with Typhon. Four independent stereo processors - distortion/bit crusher, modulation effects, delay, and reverb - each with their own slider control. For all the MPE fans out there — fret not, you are not forgotten — it's all there + polyphonic aftertouch support.
All your sonic experiments can be stored across ten banks of 64 presets. Built in Athens, Artemis represents a new step forward for Dreadbox. It's a powerful hybrid that feels both vintage and contemporary at the same time.
