The so-called diode cable with two five-pin DIN plugs was already used by Roland in 1980 as a (DIN-Sync) connector for the synchronization of music devices, before it was to make a career as a MIDI cable later on. Unfortunately many MIDI cables were not connected through on two of the five pins because MIDI does not use these wires. But for the Roland devices with Sync24 (TR808, TB303) these cables are unfortunately not usable. Conversely, Sync-compatible DIN cables can be used for MIDI transmission.
