The AtoVproject Dual Harmonic Oscillator is a massive module with a massive range of functions and massive sound!
The Dual Harmonic Oscillator (DHO) combines various useful functions in a clear and functional module. You get two triangle oscillators that you can modulate with each other in complex oscillator style. There is also Thru-Zero-FM, which allows you to create very special overtones. Additionally, you get 4 harmonics for each VCO that you can mix in, as well as an internal modulation system.
The DHO is designed to eliminate a problem of regular complex VCOs: The need for many elaborate modulations to make the sound even more complex. To achieve this, the people at AtoV have borrowed a concept from the world of video games: Simplex Noise.
Simplex noise is used to create worlds in video games, generating mountains, valleys, rivers, seas and vast plains. If you look at this world from the side (à la Mario), you will see a wave that appears random to us humans, located behind the MOD parameter in the DHO. As this wave is not generated randomly, but parametrically, you can go backwards in the wave to past events. You can also CV-control this parameter to let your modular system control the movements. There are also internal LFOs whose frequency can be modulated by the Simplex Noise. The results are unpredictable and certainly very complex.
DHO has two oscillators with a triangle wave. Each of the two has four harmonics that you can mix in manually or with control voltages. These harmonies are each an octave higher than the previous one. Each of the harmonies has a single output for further individual use.
At the very edge of the panel there is a mixer section that lets you determine the volumes of VCO1 and VCO2 to send them to the wavefolder. Finally, DHO is the first module ever to be equipped with haptic feedback to make it easier to operate. So yes, DHO can vibrate!
It's easy to get lost in subtle parameter movements and create ever new, very intricate sounds. The DHOex expander adds the usual oscillator functions to this unusual range of functions.
