Looking at this module and having that all-seeing eye on the panel stare back at you, you get a sense that this filter is imbued with some sort of mystique—let's call it "professional mystique." There are a l-o-t of filters out there, and it's not every day you come across something that brings you to a halt. But let us tell you, this really is one such moment.

The design and architecture of this module is something quite rare. This 12HP multimode filter and VCA combo draws inspiration from the rare Orgon Systems Enigiser, specifically modeled on a prototype loaned by Anthony Linell of Northern Electronics. As you might have guessed, this isn't your average filter. 

The filter boasts a unique configuration of 3x4 modes, selectable via two knobs. One knob lets you choose mode (1-4) and the other selects the filter category. With these 12 modes ranging from low-pass to high-pass, notch, and band-pass modes, you can shape your sound in just about any imaginable shape or form. The SWEnigiser features two audio inputs with a drive option, so you can push the filter into gritty, overdriven realms or keep it clean for more subtle textures. Naturally there are knobs for cutoff and resonance. The filter cutoff can be modulated via three CV inputs—two with attenuverters and one calibrated to 1V/oct for pitch tracking.

On the VCA side, the filter's output is normalized to the VCA input. With two CV inputs for the VCA, including one with an offset for creating drones, you gain even more control over the dynamics of your sound. A clip switch toggles between diode settings from different revisions of the Enigiser, offering variations in the drive character.

This thing not only has character; it's got its own sense of marvel. From phat to smooth, hearing is believing.
