4ms VCA Matrix
- Order number: 120014
- Depth: 25
The VCA Matrix module made by 4ms is a playable 4x4 matrix consisting of 16 high-quality VCAs. You can use it as a voltage controllable 4x4 mixer, splitter or as a dynamic signal-router.
Four CV or audio inputs can be routed in any amount/combination to four outputs, using the 16 CV control jacks, Level knobs, and Mute buttons.
- 4 CV/audio inputs and 4 outputs (buffered and DC-coupled)
- 16 VCA's using high quality SSM chips
- Playable interface with 16 latching mute LED buttons that can be used to mute each VCA individually (the mute button disconnects the control jack from the level knob and mutes the VCA completely)
- The brightness of the LED buttons indicates the degree of attenuation and the Control CV signal
- 16 CV sockets for volume control of the VCAs
- 16 level controls attenuate the incoming CV signals. The sockets are normalized to 5V - if no cable is plugged in, the knob serves as manual volume control (boost/cut)
- Matrix expandability: multiple VCA matrixes can be connected together via rear connectors to create a larger matrix (4x8, 8x8, 12x4, etc.)
- Control expandability: 16-pin header on the back of the board allows all VCAs to be controlled by an external device: e.g. patch recall, patch sequencing, presets like quadrature panning, etc.

VCA Matrix @ 4ms
Based in Portland (Oregon, US) Dan Green and Jeannot Quenson had a years experience already building guitar pedals. Since one input/output and tone and volume control felt a bit limiting, they applied their knowledge and passion to building a wide range of modules. Their collaboration with Matthias Puech (developer of the Clouds' Parasites alternative firmware) and Gary Hall (designer of the Lexicon PCM42) have proved to be very fruitful.
