4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator
- Order number: 150089
- Depth: 24
A Eurorack resonator with highly musical functions: The 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator offers much more than a typical filter bank.
The Spectral Multiband Resonator (SMR) combines 6 resonant bandpass filters in one module, with quantization, sequencing, and flexible CV capabilities.
The amplitudes of SMR's 6 bandpass filters are controllable via faders. There are CV inputs to control these amplitudes, as well as an envelope follower for each individual band. So far, this might not be particularly special, but it gets really exciting now!
The frequencies of the individual bands are not fixed but not freely changeable either. The Rotate encoder allows you to move them up and down in scales together, and the Spread parameter lets you place the bands relative to each other. Consequently, it's easy to navigate within safe and musical territories. Of course, you can also break free and play in a completely chaotic manner.
The Rotate encoder also lets you choose from different banks and scales, which can also be controlled via CV. You can work entirely in mono, but you can also play and tap into the even and odd bands individually. Complex stereo adventures are just as possible as old-school mono fun.
The Res parameter does exactly what you think, adding gain to the selected frequencies, up to self-oscillation. Additionally, there are more options to shift the bands, traverse the scales, and even introduce a slew to avoid clicks. It's definitely worth taking a look at the manual!
Playful percussions and especially great chords are a lot of fun with the SMR. A module that has been delighting us since NAMM 2015.

SMR @ 4ms
Based in Portland (Oregon, US) Dan Green and Jeannot Quenson had a years experience already building guitar pedals. Since one input/output and tone and volume control felt a bit limiting, they applied their knowledge and passion to building a wide range of modules. Their collaboration with Matthias Puech (developer of the Clouds' Parasites alternative firmware) and Gary Hall (designer of the Lexicon PCM42) have proved to be very fruitful.
